Britains rapidly expanding coffee bar market is expected to grow by more than 1,400 bars over the next two years, according to consultant Allegra.
Both Coffee Republic and Costa have announced plans to open at least 40 branches a year for the foreseeable future.
However, while suburban areas and growth outside of London is booming, the London market is reaching saturation point. Jeffrey Young, consultant at Allegra, said: “If another five coffee bars opened in Fleet Street, for example, nobody would make any money.”
