Britain has masses of space for more people, according to an economist at the Office for Budget Responsibility.
Despite the concern about the additional pressure placed on the country’s infrastructure because of immigration, there is room for more migrants, Stephen Nickell said, adding that immigration had had an overall positive impact on the country.
“The urbanised part of Britain occupies less than 10% of the surface area. The urbanised part of Surrey occupies less of Surrey than golf courses,” Mr. Nickell said, in comments to a parliamentary select committee.
