British Academy moves to Carlton House Terrace, London SW1

The British Academy has signed up for 2,323 sq m (25,000 sq ft) of offices at the Crown Estate’s 10-11 Carlton Terrace, London SW1. The deal has been agreed on the basis of a rent of £135 per sq m (£12.60 per sq ft) for a 50-year lease with five-yearly upward only rent reviews and a tenant’s break option after 25 years.

The building is to be fully refurbished and restored in line with its Grade 1 listed status prior to occupation in October 1997, when the British Academy will vacate its existing premises at 20-21 Cornwall Terrace, NW1. The move will bring the Academy closer to the Royal Society, which is located at 6-9 Carlton House Terrace.

The British Academy is the national academy for the study of humanities and social sciences.

Cluttons acted for the Crown Estate.
