British architect designs Siberia’s first super mall

A British architect has been appointed to design Siberia’s first super mall.

The £300m shopping centre in Siberia’s third-largest city, Krasnoyarsk, will comprise more than 2.2m sq ft of retail and leisure space.

The designs include a water park, family entertainment centre, ice rink and arena, 16-cinema complex, four-star hotel with 200 rooms, food courts and restaurants.

Bristol-based architect Atkins and developer RTM Development won the project after competing in an international tendering competition.

It will be the first in a series of super malls across Siberia.

Martin Jochman, chief architect at Atkins, said: “This is a very unique project to work on and demonstrates the breadth of skills and expertise available here in Bristol.

“Many people perceive Siberia as a barren place locked by snow and ice. But the truth could not be more different, with the city surrounded by stunning scenery.”
