British Land directors waive 20% base pay

British Land’s directors have agreed to cut base salaries or fees by 20%, for its community investment fund.

The directors will waive their base pay for an initial period of three months from 1 April.

The £1.3m fund supports initiatives from organisations including the CASS Centre for Charity Effectiveness and the National Literacy Trust, homelessness charity Providence Row, North London Cares and Pursuing Independent Paths.

It also provides employment support to help staff at BL’s retailers and suppliers in their response to Covid-19. In London, this includes working with the East London Business Alliance to help redirect workers to areas where there is a clear need.

Across BL’s campuses and at a number of retail assets, car parking has also been made freely available to support NHS staff, and through its campus networks the landlord is connecting occupiers with local volunteering opportunities provided by partners.

BL said it has also doubled its annual donation to Shelter’s housing advice line and support for LandAid.
