British Land in talks with Realty for £300m sale

British Land is in talks with Realty Income to sell a portfolio of data centres and a clutch of retail parks for close to £300m.

The negotiations would see the US investor, founded by Sumit Roy, buy a portfolio of six London-based data centres and offices leased to Vodafone, valued at £100m.

Bids for the Vodafone portfolio are due in this week.

In addition, Realty is interested in buying Inverness Shopping Park, the Kingston Centre in Milton Keynes and Serpentine Green in Peterborough from British Land.

Realty has expanded aggressively in the UK since entering the market in 2019, when it acquired 12 Sainsbury’s supermarkets, jointly owned by British Land, for £429m.

Since then, it has spent in excess of £2bn buying supermarkets, DIY stores and more than 30 retail parks — many of them in Scotland.
