British Land JV unveils £35m Dublin shopping centre plans

British Land subsidiary Firmount and Irish Life Assurance have announced details for the €50m (£35m) redevelopment of the 245,000 sq ft ILAC Shopping Centre in Dublin.

The redevelopment plans, designed by Benoy, include the refurbishment of the 40,000 sq ft Dunnes Stores, which will be split into several shops.

Firmount and Irish Life will take back the store under a swap with Dunnes, which will extend its Henry Street store into the centre.

Fashion retailer H&M will move into the centre during the first phase of the redevelopment, opening a two-level, 14,000 sq ft shop in the former Easons store.

The redevelopment of the centre will also comprise the replacement of all entrances and facades to give an enhanced street presence, including new graphics and signage.

Raising the roof, replacing the floor and the removal of plant rooms spanning the malls will improve sight lines and create a sense of space and light, said British Land.

British Land director Merrick Marshall said: “This extensive redevelopment will create a completely different atmosphere in the ILAC Shopping Centre and bring the scheme into the 21st century.”

He added: “It will provide extra facilities and amenities not only for the tenants, but also for the millions of customers who visit the centre every year.

“It will complement the other regeneration works in the area and confirm Henry Street/Mary Street as the premier destination and shopping district in Dublin.”

Final completion is expected to be spring 2007.
