British Land steps up retail spend

British Land is in discussions to acquire a raft of retail stock in off-market deals.

The REIT is in advanced talks to buy the Green Lanes shopping centre in Barnstaple, Devon, for around £35m from the Glanmore Property Fund.

The 626,000 sq ft shopping centre is anchored by BHS, River Island and Wilkinsons.

BL is also understood to have agreed a deal to pay £10m for a 20-acre retail development site in central Luton from Irish developer Ballymore.

As revealed by Estates Gazette in January, it is also bidding on Multi Developments’ 50% stake in Southgate shopping centre in Bath.

All parties declined to comment.
