British Land submits Paddington tower plans

British Land has submitted a planning application for the final piece of its Paddington campus, a 19-storey tower at 5 Kingdom Street, W2.

Designed by Allies and Morrison, the proposed building will provide 370,000 sq ft of new commercial space above Kingdom Street. There will also be 87,000 sq ft of community, retail, leisure and cultural facilities in the former Crossrail works site located below Kingdom Street, known as the Box.

British Land is also planning to create a 250-seat auditorium for cultural events within the Box, and expects connectivity between the campus and surrounding areas to be enhanced through the provision of new pedestrian and cycle routes.

Nigel Webb, head of developments at British Land, said: “We are excited about the opportunity to deliver the final piece of the Paddington Central masterplan and further connect the campus with the local community.

“With Crossrail vacating the site below Kingdom Street, the development provides a unique opportunity to create a new destination, building on our continued investment in Paddington Central.”

Since acquiring the 11-acre Paddington Central in 2013, British Land has invested nearly £100m into its transformation. Its current tenants include Microsoft, Visa and Kingfisher.
