Former British Land head of offices Tim Roberts has been appointed as the new chief executive of investor and developer Henry Boot.
Roberts’ new role will take effect at the start of January. John Sutcliffe, the current chief executive, will continue to lead the company until the end of 2019.
He will then remain in an advisory position with the company until the end of the AGM on 21 May 2020, at which point he will retire and step down from the board.
Roberts spent 15 years running British Land’s office team as well as developing the strategy for its successful London office business, before he left the landlord in March.
During Roberts’ time at British Land, he led the development of its London campuses at Broadgate, Regent’s Place and the transformation of Paddington Central, following its acquisition in 2013.
He has also overseen the development and disposal of landmark office developments, most recently the Leadenhall Building and 5 Broadgate, and led lettings to the likes of Facebook, UBS and Dentsu Aegis.
Jamie Boot, chairman, said: “The board has conducted a rigorous selection process, with an external recruitment partner, during which both internal and external candidates were assessed for the role.
“Under John’s leadership, Henry Boot has undergone important and necessary change and is now a stronger group.”
Roberts said: “Henry Boot is in very good shape and I am joining a team that will not only continue to deliver strong returns, but also a business that has the organisational and capital structure to prosper.
“On a personal note, as a Yorkshireman, I am very happy to be returning to my home city of Sheffield.”
