Britishvolt has partnered with Prologis to build a UK battery cell scale-up facility in the West Midlands, with an investment exceeding £200m.
Under the plan, Britishvolt is looking to unify the new development with the gigafactory at Blyth in Northumberland to create a “battery corridor” enhancing the UK’s existing battery ecosystem.
New facilities, based at Prologis Park Hams Hall, to the north-east of Birmingham, are set to be net-zero carbon in construction and achieve an EPC A rating in operation. The development is expected to be completed, including fit-out and equipment installation, by the end of the third quarter of 2023.
Paul Franklin, property director at Britishvolt, said: “The new R&D and scale-up facilities announced today will help the UK build on its home-grown battery intellectual property and level up the country ready for the energy transition.”
Savills Birmingham acted on behalf of Britishvolt.
