Britton Construction has secured planning permission for its 120,000 sq ft (11,148 sq m) retail park to the north of Clacton-on-Sea, Essex.
Having initially passed the retail park as part of its local plan, Tendring council backtracked, partly in response to PPG6.
However, the Secretary of State has ruled that the retail park’s benefits are “sufficiently substantial as to justify treating the proposal as an exception” to the Government’s policies on the countryside.
The retail park is expected to available to prospective tenants by the end of 2002.
