Brookfield debuts in European data centre arena with €3.5bn buy

Brookfield Infrastructure Partners has agreed a deal with AXA IM Alts to buy one of Europe’s largest data centre platforms for a rumoured €3.5bn (£3.1bn).

Brookfield is buying Data4, which has 31 data centres across six countries with 850MW secured power.

AXA, which has owned the business since 2018, said growth of the Data4 portfolio has been aided by the “close collaboration of Data4 management and AXA IM Alts’ on the ground real estate teams”.

The investment marks Brookfield’s first major entry into the European data centre market and it says the move will allow the investor to “leverage its ecosystem” to provide best-in-class greenfield development and renewable power capabilities to further build the business throughout Europe.
