Brown and Blair will intervene in Jag plant closure row

The prime minister and the chancellor of the exchequer have decided to intervene in the row over the closure of Jaguar’s plant in Browns Lane, Coventry.

Tony Blair and Gordon Brown plan to talk to Ford bosses about the Jaguar owner’s decision to switch production to a plant in Birmingham.

They want the carmaker to listen to unions’ alternative proposals and to agree to further talks.
