Brown signals optimism for Longbridge plant future

Gordon Brown has expressed optimism that the future of MG Rover’s Longbridge plant will be safeguarded.

The chancellor signalled that a £1bn proposed investment by Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation in the British carmaker would happen soon.

He was speaking at the beginning of this three-day visit to China. Brown will meet senior Chinese industrial officials today.
