Brum opts for city centre EZ

Birmingham’s local enterprise partnership has today recommended that the city centre become an enterprise zone.

At a Greater Birmingham and Solihull LEP meeting, it was agreed that a business case would be submitted to the government for the creation of an enterprise zone in Birmingham city centre.

Earlier this month, Estates Gazette revealed how Birmingham’s Big City Plan, which covers the entire city centre, was being lined up to become one of the country’s first 11 EZs.

The LEP added that it wants to create an enterprise belt which would cover a significant part of the remainder of the body’s patch.

LEP chair Bridget Blow said: “The enterprise zone and belt proposal forms part of our wider economic strategy to exploit the distinctive economic strengths of each area of our LEP.

“Combined with plans to create world class connectivity to national, European and global markets, and accelerated roll out of superfast broadband, we hope that our submission makes a compelling business case for government to grant our proposals for creating both an enterprise zone and belt.”
