Bruntwood is the preferred development partner for a 500,000 sq ft redevelopment opportunity next to Manchester Oxford Road station.
The developer was chosen by Network Rail and Manchester City Council through a tender process after Muse Developments, First Step, Valad and a Capital & Centric joint venture with Carillion all pulled out of the bidding process.
The partners will work together to agree a development framework for the site, which will be a mixed-use district with shops, offices and homes designed to support Manchester’s knowledge-based economy and the northern powerhouse.
Proposals are also expected to include significant improvement to the Grade II-listed Oxford Road station.
Bruntwood chief executive Chris Oglesby said the redevelopment would enhance Oxford Road’s position as a “gateway” into the city and connect people to its other city centre developments: Circle Square, MSP Central and Citylabs.
Stuart Kirkwood, director of development at Network Rail, said: “We know that investing in stations provides a major catalyst for wider regeneration in our towns and cities.
“By working with Manchester City Council we can unlock valuable land around Manchester Oxford Road station and dramatically improve the experience for passengers while delivering much-needed new homes, jobs and economic growth.”
Cushman & Wakefield acted for Network Rail and Manchester City Council.
