Bruntwood SciTech signs renewable energy platform at Manchester’s Base
Bruntwood SciTech has expanded the business community at Manchester Science Park by adding UrbanChain as the latest occupier.
The company behind a platform for buying and selling renewable energy has taken 4,000 sq ft on a five-year lease at Base, a 91,000 sq ft building in the heart of the city’s knowledge quarter.
UrbanChain worked closely with Bruntwood Scitech, a joint venture between Legal & General, Bruntwood and Manchester Pension Fund, to design and fit-out its new office space.

Somayeh Taheri, founder and chief executive at UrbanChain, said: “With a team rapidly growing beyond 50 people, we call Base our new home.
“As we also now embark on a Series B fund raise, we feel we have a working environment which aligns our workforce with our UK and international growth strategy.”
Josh Whiteley, commercial director at Bruntwood SciTech, said: “From starting out with a single desk at our Manchester Technology Centre at Circle Square in 2018, we have witnessed them go from strength to strength – growing with us; expanding into various spaces within the park, before reaching this milestone and settling in our office development, Base.”
Manchester Science Park is home to more than 150 businesses working in areas such as software engineering and development, energy, diagnostics and medical technology. Businesses based at the park benefit from access to a talent pool through Bruntwood SciTech’s partnerships with a network of universities and alternative training providers, as well as opportunities to connect with companies and city councils, cultivating potential for investment and business growth.
