BTR body expands with new regional chairs

Build-to-rent trade body the UK Apartment Association has appointed chairs to lead expansion in Scotland and the North West.

Gillian McLees, director of BTR at Rettie & Co, has been appointed chair of UKAA Scotland, while Dougie Orton-Wade, an asset manager for Allsop Letting and Management, becomes chair of UKAA North West.

Orton-Wade is joined by Peter Grimshaw, sales director for Regal Blinds, as deputy chair.

The two divisions will be supported by steering groups with professionals from Legal & General, JLL and Grainger, among others. The groups aim to showcase BTR to the local community, unpick challenges for development, gather market data and build a wider BTR network.

The dedicated regional groups are the first from the UKAA as the organisation seeks to help local BTR markets grow. Further expansion is planned in the Midlands in early 2022.

McLees said: “2022 is set to be a pivotal year in the BTR sector in Scotland with the launch of landmark schemes to the public and long-awaited buildings becoming operational. I am committed to the success of this sector and providing the rented homes that Scotland so desperately needs.”
