Buckland Development has exchanged contracts to buy the 385-acre Dean Farm in Hampshire, taking control of 96% of the land identified for the 6,000-home Garden Village of Welborne development.
The High Court ordered the site to be sold on the open market in February to allow for the development to go ahead.
Buckland Development submited an outline planning application to Fareham Borough Council for the 950-acre Garden Village site in March, having worked on plans for Welborne for more than 10 years.
The Dean Farm purchase represented 40% of the land selected by Fareham Borough Council for Welborne.
Mark Thistlethwayte, principal at Buckland Development, said: “We have been working on this acquisition for a very long period and are pleased the legal hurdles have been overcome. We have been working with our delivery partners to ensure that we can deliver the new community in the form that meets the expectations and aspirations the community expect to see.
“We have stayed true to our vision for Welborne and want to make it an exemplary development that represents a new generation of sustainable communities for future generations. We have been supported along the way by local focus groups and look forward to working with Fareham Borough Council to achieve our mutual objectives in line with our planning application.”
