Budge’s £350m colliery plans unworkable claim mining analysts

Richard Budge’s plans for a new £350m colliery in Nottinghamshire are being dismissed by mining analysts as unworkable.

Budge, chief executive of RJB Mining, unveiled the ambitious plans last week after he claimed seismic surveys indicated the presence of 655m tonnes of workable coal in the Witham area north of Newark.

But British Coal investigated the Vale of Witham during the oil crisis in the 1970s and decided it would not be economic to develop a mine.
