Burton-on-Trent power station to get new life

Plans have been submitted this week to transform a former power station site into a major sustainable mixed-use development near Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire.

Landowners of Drakelow Park engineering firm Roger Bullivant and energy business E.ON UK are proposing a new settlement comprising up to 2,200 homes including a retirement village, alongside an employment park of around 540,000 sq ft on the 271-acre brownfield site.

The scheme will also deliver two mixed-use neighbourhood centres with space for local shops, a new primary school, small businesses and community space set around a village square.

Steve Fawcett, managing director at consultant Hawksmoor, which is advising on the planning application submission, said: “Subject to consent and after primary infrastructure has been put in we plan to sell the ‘oven ready’ land off to house builders and developers in parcels.”

The planning application has been submitted to South Derbyshire district council and a decision is expected in the autumn.
