Have you ever wondered what became of all those Soviet agents after the fall of Communism? Well, there is a software house in Nottingham called KGB Micros Ltd! Surely not? No, I can reassure you that it is a well-established British company which specialises in CAD systems, with three offices in the UK. And it has just supplied an AutoCAD system to Nottingham City Council. The system is being used by the contract services section of the council’s housing department for the preparation of computer-aided plans and drawings in connection with major refurbishment and repair work carried out to its housing stock.
The system enables users to draw plans, including provision of services such as wiring and ducts, and create perspectives and threedimensional drawings. These may be used, when required, to provide tenants with a complete visual image of a proposed refurbishment.
According to Ian Grant, assistant business analyst of the housing services department, the aim of acquiring the system was to double productivity in the generation of drawings from the surveying office. He states: “We are very pleased with the system and also the service and support that we have received from KGB Micros in setting it up.”
The system supplied by KGB Micros is based on AutoCAD Release 12 and AEC 3.1 software. The hardware includes AST Premium computer with upgradeable architecture, complemented by high-resolution graphics systems based on a Taxan 21in high-resolution colour display, Artist XJS graphics cards and an Oce plotter.
