A cap on holiday homes in the Cairngorms National Park is looming after concerns that locals are being priced out of the market.
Highland Council has applied for a short-term let control area to cover Badenoch and Strathspey. It argued that a restriction on temporary holiday accommodation would counteract the impact tourism was having on residents struggling to buy or rent in the area.
There has been a surge in properties on rental sites such as Airbnb and Booking.com and about 17% of housing in the Aviemore area has been bought by those working in tourism.
