CALA plans Scotland’s first urban village

CALA Homes has submitted planning applications for a £50m project to build Scotland’s first urban village in north Aberdeen.

The developer plans to build 295 homes on the 18ha (44 acre) site of the disused Crombie Mill at Granholm.

CALA managing director David Gill said: “In June 1997, an outline planning consent for residential, commercial and retail use was granted to develop the site. This will be, we believe, the first mixed-use urban village proposed in Scotland. It will include shops, offices, leisure and housing built on a brownfield site.”

Funding for the site’s development is conditional upon a start being made in the first half of 1999.
