Calls for West Midlands sovereign wealth fund

John Clancy, the leader of Birmingham city council, is calling for the creation of a West Midlands sovereign wealth fund that would combine the area’s public-sector pension funds and invest the funds in local homes and infrastructure.

The city could also issue Brummie bonds to raise money for local projects.

Clancy estimates that the city needs around 90,000 new homes over the next 10-15 years.
