Cambridge agents quit for start-up

Two of Cambridge’s best-known agents are leaving roles at national firms to set up their own company.

Andrew McGahey, the former head of Lambert Smith Hampton in Cambridge, and Neil Perrin, head of Savills’ mixed-use team in the city, have launched MP Real Estate.

The Cambridge-based firm will focus on investment and development consultancy work across the South East.

McGahey said that despite the development market being difficult at present there were still opportunities out there. He said: “Firms such as Aldi, Premier Inn and the cinema operators are doing well and are keen to take on space, and in investment there are still cash-rich investors keen to take advantage of the market.”

McGahey was at LSH for three years and was brought on to boost the agent’s presence in the local market. Perrin joined Savills in 2007.

McGahey said: “I was tired of corporate life. It had become an extended business of filling in forms. Now is as good time as any to set up our own firm.”

The LSH Cambridge office will now be jointly run by Peter Williams and Lloyd Spencer.
