Cambridge businesses want a return to the office

Businesses in Cambridge are keen to get back to the office.

A survey of Cambridge-based companies, carried out by local business group Cambridge Ahead, found “widespread concern” among workers about the long-term consequences of avoiding the office.

Four-fifths of those who responded reported that they were spending less time in the office now than before the pandemic began. Two-fifths pointed out that remote working “has been good for the financial position” of their employers. Some of those businesses have reduced their office space, saving money on rent and on expenses.

But the absence of interaction has become a worry, with almost half saying that collaboration between teams in their company had deteriorated.
