Animal research advocates are dismayed by South Cambridgeshire district councils decision to reject Cambridge Universitys planning application for a neurosciences laboratory.
The laboratory, at Girton, would have used monkeys for brain research.
Councillors decided it was not suitable because demonstrations by animal rights activists that it would have attracted would have caused disruption at the nearby motorway junction and other main roads.
The council said it wanted to help the university find a more suitable site. The university is considering whether to appeal.
