Cambridge has topped a ranking of the greenest UK cities in which investors can put their money to work.
BNP Paribas Real Estate used its own Next X locational analysis data to rank cities using metrics including the number of office buildings with a BREEAM rating, CO2 emissions per capita and roadside air pollutants index.
Cambridge landed in first place, followed by Glasgow, Edinburgh, Milton Keynes and Swansea. Peterborough placed sixth, followed by Oxford, with Bristol, Dundee and Manchester rounding out the top 10.
Charlie Tattersall, associate director for research at BNP Paribas Real Estate, said: “You could own the greenest building in an area, but if the wider locational offer does not match up with its strong environmental credentials, then it could be argued that its longevity isn’t entirely protected against ever-shifting ESG requirements.”
