Cambridge plans capped housing to attract best academics

Cambridge university is planning a new housing quarter, named after astronomer and physicist Arthur Eddington, as it seeks to attract the top academics and researchers.

The £350m development will house 8,500 people when completed, and will also provide 100,000 m² of research facilities. The university will recoup some of the costs by selling around 1,500 homes.

The first phase – Swirles Court – will comprise 325 rooms with the rent capped at 30% of net salalry.
