Cambridge rent spikes as London firms seek ‘spokes’

Office rents in Cambridge have risen to record levels as London-based firms look for spokes for their hubs.

Over the past five years, prime office rents in the city have risen by 37% and Bidwells predicts that they will continue that trend.

By 2026, it expects that the top offices will command rent of £57 per sq ft.

Cambridge was pipped by Brighton as the most popular location for a “spoke” office, according to Censuswide.

However, there are doubts about whether Brighton has enough quality office space to accommodate all the London leavers, with only two new grade-A  office schemes due to open within the next 12 months.
