Gardenia, a restaurant in Cambridge, has been saved from demolition after a backlash from students including ex-patrons Stephen Fry and Michael Portillo.
Gonville and Caius College, which own the freehold, wanted to close it to make way for a new student accommodation block, according to The Times.
But Caius said it was never going to close the restaurant. It was going to exercise its break in the lease with the existing tenant.
It said the business could have moved. Now an agreement has been reached to let the restaurant remain until 2011.
