Landlord Turville Estates (UK) is suing the chancellor, masters and scholars of Cambridge University in a £1m dispute over property in Cambridge.
A claim issued at London’s High Court and just made publicly available says that the university has breached covenants of a lease of Purbeck House in Purbeck Road, which was leased for 25 years from February 1994 at an initial rent of £35,680.
The claim says that after the university vacated the premises following the expiry of the lease in 1999, Turville discovered that the property needed repair work, and served a schedule of dilapidations.
It is claimed that the damage to the reversion resulting from the breaches of covenant amount to £1,010,000, and Turville, of Walton Lodge, Walton Street, Aylesbury, has spent more than £12,000 preparing and serving the schedule.
Turville is now suing Cambridge University for £1,022,942 plus interest.
