Proposals to turn empty Cambridge city centre retail space into life sciences and technology facilities have been given the green light by the council.
The plans, designed by Scott Brownrigg for Brydell Partners, will see vacant shops at 2-14 Fitzroy Street become offices and labs, spanning 28,000 sq ft.
The existing three-storey building will be refurbished and extended to provide extra space on the roof.
Ed Hayden, director and head of life sciences at Scott Brownrigg, said: “Repurposing vacant retail space on the high street for labs helps to breathe life back into high streets that have been hit hard by the decline in traditional retail.
“Locating life sciences labs in the heart of communities can help to foster collaboration between academia, industry and the public, creating a rich ecosystem of innovation and discovery.”
