Cambridgeshire council leaders look to penalise slow builders

Cambridgeshire council leaders are pressing to be given powers that would enable them to penalise developers who do not make adequate progress on building homes, proposing to charge them council tax on homes not built within a five-year timeframe.

The move comes as the council joins with Peterborough and four district councils to apply to become an eastern powerhouse.

They are seeking devolved budgets for housing and infrastructure, among other areas.
