Camden derailment intensifies PPP fears

The PPP scheme for London Underground has come under scrutiny again after a derailment this weekend at Camden Town.

Tube Lines is responsible for maintaining and upgrading the infrastructure of the line on which the accident happened. It was the second derailment in less than 48 hours and the third since the beginning of the year.

Network Rail is considering taking back all rail maintenance work from private contractors. London mayor Ken Livingstone has ordered an inquiry.

He is also to demand up to £1.5bn of extra Treasury money to fund the Underground after identifying a series of financial black holes since taking over the network.
