Can the world’s most controversial property company live up to the hype?

On the corner of Lafayette and Grand Streets, straddling iconic New York neighbourhoods such as SoHo, Chinatown, Nolita and Little Italy, is the first-ever WeWork location. The tenement style building’s location has come to embody two things that define the provider of office space — the idea of community and it’s stratospheric growth through many of the world’s main cities.

From the opening of that first office space almost a decade ago, WeWork’s offices have mushroomed to 484 other locations — that’s close to opening 50 offices a year — and is now the largest tenant in New York and one of the biggest in London.
