Canadian bank jump-starts Jersey scheme

Dublin-based Harcourt Developments is close to securing the first major tenant for Jersey’s proposed financial district, Esplanade Square.

The Royal Bank of Canada is in talks to take a 100,000 sq ft building at the 6-acre site in St Helier.

It would move its operations out of around 60,000 sq ft at Broad Street and La Motte Street in St Helier to the 600,000 sq ft office scheme in the Waterfront area.

A source said: “Harcourt is talking to all the main banks, and has draft deals in place.”

Harcourt is also said to be in talks with Royal Bank of Scotland Investment for 150,000 sq ft, Barclays for 100,000 sq ft, law firm Ogiers for 100,000 sq ft, Lloyds TSB for up to 60,000 sq ft, and UBS for 50,000 sq ft.

Letting agent Barnes Daniels & Partners is advising Harcourt. Gaudin & Co acts for Royal Bank of Canada.
