The Greater London Authority has approved plans from Canary Wharf Group for a purpose-built student accommodation scheme at 7 Brannan Street in Wood Wharf, E14.
The development will deliver 912 bedrooms and is part of the neighbourhood’s continued evolution seeing students join the 3,500 residents already living at Canary Wharf.
The 46-storey building, designed by Howells Architects, includes communal and leisure spaces, a ground-floor retail offer and two public gardens.
Tom Venner, chief development officer for Canary Wharf Group, said: “7 Brannan Street will be a fantastic addition to the diverse range of residential offerings at Canary Wharf. We are already home to world-leading education and learning facilities, including the UCL School of Management operating from One Canada Square.
“This building will help meet the demand for modern, high-quality accommodation located within a metropolitan environment offering a rich mix of retail, leisure, hospitality and green spaces for students to enjoy.”
The residential offer at Canary Wharf continues to expand with a mix of private for sale, private rent, affordable, hotel and a new aparthotel, which opened earlier this year.
