Cannock designer outlet gets the go-ahead

Designer-outlet,-Cannock-Secretary of state Greg Clark has given the go-ahead for the development of a major designer outlet village in Cannock, West Midlands.

U + I (formerly Development Securities) and Rioja Developments can now move forward with their plans for the £110m proposed Mill Green Designer Outlet Village which won planning consent last November. Due to its size, it was referred to Clarke for him to decide whether the application should be called-in or not.

The retail-led centre will comprise 285,306 sq ft of mixed-use space, including up to 130 designer outlet stores, new restaurants and around 2,000 car parking spaces on a site located next to the Mill Green Nature Reserve, within easy access of the M6 and M6 Toll road.

It is hoped that the new outlet centre will generate more than £500m of socio-economic improvements over the next 10 years. The added retail activity and associated visitor spend could add around £34m in annual GVA.

Gordon Alcott, portfolio leader for economic development and planning at the council, said: “It is great news that this has been agreed at national level and can now proceed.”

The first of phase of development is due to start by the end of 2016, with an anticipated opening in 2018.
