Capita recruits government’s head of housing

Capita Symonds has hired the government’s top civil servant in charge of housing, Richard McCarthy, as executive director with a central government role.

McCarthy is leaving his post as director general for neighbourhoods at the department for Communities and Local Government (CLG) after eight years, with effect from November.

His role at Capita Symonds will be a central government one, it is understood.

Before joining CLG, McCarthy was chairman of the National Housing Federation for three years.

Andrew Campbell, currently director of strategy and performance at CLG, will take on McCarthy’s responsibilities until a permanent replacement is found.
