Capital & Centric is seeking the local community’s thoughts on the £100m regeneration of the Springs Shopping Centre in Buxton, Derbyshire.
The developer plans to repurpose the 1980s building by introducing a vibrant, residential-led neighbourhood, featuring 250 homes, 50,000 sq ft of shops, bars and cafes, and public squares.
In addition, Capital & Centric will open up a pedestrian route through the site from Spring Gardens to the train station, as well as to the River Wye.
The site, which sits between the train station and the high street, is understood to be the town centre’s biggest development. There will be an initial investment of £6.6m of Central Government funding and £4m from High Peak Borough Council.
John Moffat, joint managing director at Capital & Centric, said: “We’re planning a new neighbourhood with a mix of homes for everyone, from young professionals to families and downsizers, alongside lush green open spaces to chill out alongside the river.”
Damien Greenhalgh, deputy leader and cabinet member for regeneration, tourism and leisure at High Peak Borough Council, said: “We urge everyone to have their say over the coming weeks and help shape a better Buxton we can all enjoy, once this major scheme concludes in 2029.”
