Capital & Centric has revealed plans for the Littlewoods Project, a £70m TV and film studio and leisure destination in Liverpool.
The move follows the launch of a month-long public consultation as the developer draws-up a planning application to be submitted to the local authority.
The proposals include transformation of the existing building, formerly the home of Littlewoods Football Pools’ offices, into a 300,000 sq ft mixed-use scheme.
This is expected to include offices, options for hotel rooms for crew, an education facility, a roof terrace, and workshops and studio support facilities.
Capital & Centric also plans to build two new 20,000 sq ft studios on the site, adjacent to the existing buildings.
A screening and performance zone will also be set up within the existing hangar and open to the public.
It will feature four cinema screens, a performance space and a food hall.
Capital & Centric joint managing director John Moffat said: “As well as the Hollywood-standard studio building, workshops and offices, we want to make sure the Littlewoods Project embraces the surrounding community.
“That’s why we’re planning to incorporate loads of creative spaces, such as an educational facility; a screening space and food hall, that’ll be open to the public; and lush, landscaped areas where people can unwind.”
Capital & Centric is working in partnership with the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and Liverpool City Council, as the landowner, to bring the site forward. Work to clean up the building and prepare the site for development is set to start this summer.
At the end of last year, Capital & Centric secured funding to deliver the first phase of the project.
The funding package totals £17m after the combined authority approved an initial £8m of funding earlier in 2022 for remediation, design and planning for the project.
The UK’s oldest film studios Twickenham is signed up as the anchor tenant for 85,000 sq ft.
Liverpool John Moores University was signed as the anchor tenant for 75,000 sq ft but pulled out of the deal in October 2022. The university remains a close partner of the project but is now set to invest in its own campus and facilities.
