Capital Radio has secured a site at Argent’s Brindleyplace in Birmingham for its first Radio Café concept to open outside central London.
The radio station, which has its HQ and flagship radio café outlet off Leicester Square in London’s West End, is taking 1,532 sq m (16,500 sq ft) in No 9 Brindleyplace – the first major self-contained mixed-use building in the scheme.
Capital is the first occupier to commit to No 9 – which opens onto Broad Street and the scheme’s second public square Oozells Square – and will run a restaurant and café there, as well as site its local radio station, BRMB, on the first floor.
Capital is also looking for a similar site in Southampton where it owns another local radio station. It bought the My Kinda Town restaurant chain last year, and is looking to expand further.
No 9 Brindleyplace – which will comprise some 6,038 sq m (65,000 sq ft) of office, retail and leisure accommodation – forms part of the 23,225 sq m (250,000 sq ft) of speculative development that Argent is currently undertaking at Brindleyplace.
Capital is believed to be taking the space on institutional leases, but Argent is considering the possibility of letting office suites of around 464 sq m (5,000 sq ft) in No 9 on flexible terms in order to attract occupiers from the city centre.
