Capital & Regional has submitted plans for the extension of The Mall in Walthamstow, which include a significant residential component, to Waltham Forest Council.
It hopes to add an 86,000 sq ft retail extension to accommodate up to 12 new retailers and five food and beverage operators, alongside 460 homes.
The residential component will be delivered with a development partner and will be built above the shopping centre.
Capital & Regional bought The Mall in 1997 and in 2015 undertook a full refurbishment of the shopping centre.
Ken Ford, executive director at Capital & Regional, said: “Following the successful refurbishment of The Mall in 2015, we see huge potential to create an integrated destination comprising an enhanced retail and leisure offer, as well as much needed new homes, all set in a remodelled public square adjacent to Walthamstow transport hub.”
