Cardiff Bay given until Friday to answer flooding fears

The Environment Agency for Wales has given an extension to the Cardiff Bay Development Corporation to answer concerns about potential flooding at the £197 centrepiece project.

It wants questions answered by Friday on worries that failure to empty a 202.35ha (500 acre) artificial lake in the centre of the development will cause flooding.

The agency has warned of serious risk in downpours and that oxygen levels in the water are insufficient to sustain eco-systems. Satisfactory answers to the agency’s questions are vital if a new licence is not to be withheld which would throw the development into chaos.
