Cardiff set to get second five-star hotel

Rightacres Property has submitted plans for the redevelopment of Cardiff’s former Lloyds TSB Asset Finance HQ as a 15-storey hotel.

The South Wales developer is believed to have Macdonald Hotels & Resorts lined up to occupy the 202,000 sq ft (18,786 sq m) Holland House Hotel, on Newport Road.

Rightacres, headed by Mike McCarthy, acquired the office block last year and is believed to be in talks with East Lothian-based Macdonald.

The Holland House would be Cardiff’s second five-star hotel, following the opening of Sir Rocco Forte’s St David’s Hotel & Spa in Cardiff Bay four years ago.

Lloyds TSB Asset Finance is relocating its HQ to St William House, an office building being developed by Rightacres on Penarth Road, Cardiff.

Neither Rightacres nor Macdonald Hotels was willing to comment.
