Care UK has been selected as preferred bidder by Suffolk county council to buy and operate 16 of its care homes.
As part of the agreement, the firm will also run eight of the council’s day centres. The price of the portfolio has not been finalised. Care UK has also pledged to invest in 10 new care homes in the area, providing 680 beds.
The council received 23 potential bids for the portfolio during a year-long selection process. Assets include the 48-bed Glastonbury Court in Bury St Edmunds.
Councillor Colin Noble, the council’s portfolio holder for adult and community services, said: “This whole process was about identifying a provider that would bring the necessary expertise and investment into Suffolk.”
Negotiations are still ongoing, and a further report will be considered by the council once they are finished.
