Carillion gets consent for Leeds Tower Works

Carillion has secured planning consent for its regeneration of the Tower Works scheme on Leeds South Bank.

The 2.9-acre scheme, a joint venture with the Homes and Communities Agency, will include 90,000 sq ft of offices and 16,000 sq ft of shops, restaurants and bars alongside a mix of flats and townhouses.

In November, fashion house Burberry revealed plans to open a weaving centre at the Grade-I listed Temple Works, where it will employ 200 people to make trench coats.

The Grade-II listed Engine House will be transformed into a cinema and boutique brewery, and a new public piazza will be created to link Holbeck Urban Village to the Leeds-Liverpool canal and the new southern entrance to Leeds train station at Granary Wharf.

Richardsons Capital will be the sole investment partner for the £80m project, paving the way for construction to start in late spring. The scheme is expected to complete in 2020.

Knight Frank and Sanderson Weatherall are joint office agents on the scheme. CBRE and Morgans are residential agents and Pudney Shuttleworth is the retail and leisure agent.
